PGA Tour to co-sanction Australian Open as international reach expands

The PGA Tour is expanding its international alliances and will co-sanction the Australian Open with the DP World Tour, Golf Australia has announced Tuesday.

The agreement runs through 2029 and marks the first time the PGA Tour has partnered with Golf Australia.

The PGA Tour is expected to contribute to the purse and encourage its members to compete, similar to the tour's co-sanctioning arrangement with the Scottish Open.

World No. 2 Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland competed in the 2025 Australian Open last December, which was won by PGA Tour rookie Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen of Denmark at Royal Melbourne Golf Club.

The PGA Tour's new partnership with the DP World Tour comes with rival LIV Golf's survival hanging in the balance following its impending loss of Saudi Arabia's financial backing.
