Pakistan bow out of World Cup on winning note

Pakistan have officially missed out on a semi-final spot at the World Cup despite thrashing Bangladesh on Friday at Lord’s.

Batting first, Pakistan posted 315 for 9 thanks largely to a stylish century from opener Imam al Haq.

They then had to bowl out Bangladesh for under seven in order to surpass New Zealand’s net run rate and qualify for the final four.

However there were to be no drama but a six wicket haul from fast man Shaheen Shah Afridi ensured that they would bow out on a winning note.

The 94 run win left Pakistan level on points with New Zealand but with an inferior net run rate.

Meanwhile it was another disappointing loss for Bangladesh, who will likely finish the tournament in seventh place.
