Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios has forfeited his second-round match against Norway's Casper Ruud at the Italian Open after storming off the court.

Kyrgios was handed a one-game penalty for "unsportsmanlike conduct" when he shouted at a member of the crowd after being broken early in the third set.

He then kicked at a bottle, threw down his racquet, hurled a chair on to the court, picked up his bag and left.

Later on social media, the Australian player admitted that "emotions got the better of me".

Kyrgios has stirred up quite a few controversies at the tournament, calling Novak Djokovic "cringeworthy" and Rafael Nadal "super salty".
