McIlroy named European Tour golfer of the year for third time

Rory McIlroy has been named the European Tour’s Golfer of the Year for the third time in four seasons. It's despite missing several key tournaments through injury. The Northern Irishman joins Lee Westwood, Ernie Els, Nick Faldo and Seve Ballesteros as a three-time winner of the title. McIlroy topped the Race to Dubai standings for the second year running after winning the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. The 26-year-old was given an exemption by the European Tour to feature in the Final Series after playing fewer than the minimum of 13 events.
