IAN KINGTON / AFP

Manchester City have won the Community Shield on penalties.

The Premier League champions beat Liverpool in a high octane encounter at Wembley Stadium.

Georginio Wijnaldum had his penalty saved by City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, setting the stage for Gabriel Jesus to step up and score the winning penalty.

The teams finished deadlocked on 1-1 after full time with goals from Raheem Sterling and Joel Matip.
