Jurgen Klopp injures himself as Liverpool go fifth after tense win over Tottenham

Liverpool secured a thrilling 4-3 win against Tottenham on Sunday, but the game was not without drama.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp suffered an injury during his wild celebration of Diogo Jota's last-minute winner.

His celebration also earned him a yellow card from referee Paul Tierney.

Klopp was visibly wincing through his delight as he conducted post-match cheers in front of The Kop. "I'm not sure it's a hamstring. It could be an adductor as well. It's painful," Klopp said of his injury.

Klopp was also furious with Tierney's decision to award a free-kick that led to Tottenham's equaliser.

"We have our history with Tierney. I really don't know what he has against us. What he said to me when he gave me the yellow card is not OK," Klopp said.

Tottenham's interim head coach, Ryan Mason, was equally unhappy with the refereeing decisions. He felt that Jota's challenge on Oliver Skipp, which only earned him a yellow card, deserved a red card instead. "It's probably the clearest red card you will see on the football pitch," Mason said. "It endangered the opponent, Skipp needs stitches and Jota has scored the goal when he shouldn't be on the pitch."

Despite the drama, Liverpool's victory took them up to fifth in the Premier League table. However, they are still seven points behind Manchester United in the Champions League qualifying positions having played a game more. Tottenham, on the other hand, are at risk of being overtaken by Brighton, who have three games in hand. Mason believes that his team's performance was commendable despite the defeat. "The character and the fight was there for everyone to see. We were just unlucky today," Mason said.
