Japanese Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton wins as Nico Rosberg completes one-two for Mercedes

NULL

Lewis Hamilton has won the Japanese Grand Prix by nearly 20 seconds, with Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg coming in second. After missing out on the podium in two out of the last four races, the German team completed an impressive one-two at Suzuka. Hamilton now extends his lead atop the drivers' standings to 48 points over Rosberg. "I'm so happy right now. The team has done a fantastic job all weekend. I had a great start,” Hamilton told media. "For me to come here to a race where I used to watch Ayrton Senna drive, and match his career wins, it doesn't feel real at the moment. "It was important for us to strike back. We didn't bring our ‘A’ game in Singapore and we had to bring it today.” Nico Rosberg commented: "Lewis just got a better start, fair play. It was great to fight back to second because fourth would not have been acceptable. It is also great for us as a team to be back here after Singapore. "I had to win today, that didn't work out. Just have to try again next time." Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel finished in third place.
