India on top in third Test against South Africa

MONEY SHARMA / AFP

India are in a commanding position heading into day two of the third and final Test against South Africa at Ranchi.

The hosts will resume their first innings play on 224 for 3 on Sunday, with Rohit Sharma (117) and Ajinkya Rahane (83) at the crease.

Bad light and rain had forced the umpires to take the players off the field early on the opening day on Saturday.

At one stage, India were in trouble at 39 for three, but Rahane and Sharma steadied the innings.

Mayank Agarwal, who scored a century in the second Test in Pune, was dismissed for 10 by Kagiso Rabada, who also sent Cheteshwar Pujara for a duck.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli (12) became Anrich Nortje's first Test wicket as the fast bowler trapped the Indian skipper LBW.
