India in firm control of third Test against South Africa

South Africa are on the back foot heading into day 3 of the third and final Test against India in Ranchi.

The visitors are trailing by 488 runs and will resume play on 9 for 2 on Monday, with Zubayr Hamza and captain Faf du Plessis at the crease.

India declared their first innings on 497 for 9 on Sunday, with Rohit Sharma smashing a double century (212) and Ajinkya Rahane scoring 115 runs.

Fast bowlers Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami then struck early with the new ball to put India in firm control of the match.

Opener Dean Elgar was caught behind for a duck by Shami, while Quinton de Kock lost his wicket to Umesh Yadav for four.

India currently enjoy an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
