Halep into Madrid Open finals, eyes number one spot

Simona Halep in on track to regain the world number one ranking.

She beat reigning Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships winner Belinda Bencic in three sets to reach the finals of the Madrid Open.

The Romanian will now play Kiki Bertens in today's final.

Meanwhile in the men's tournament Dominic Thiem beat eight-time Dubai winner Roger Federer's to reach the semi-finals of the Madrid Open while Rafael Nadal cruised into the final four with straight sets win over Stan Wawrinka.

Nadal will now face Stefanos Tsitsipas next after the Greek player got the better of defending champion Alexander Zverev.
