It’s been a clean sweep by Ethiopia at the 2016 Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon. In the men’s race, Tesfaye Abera Dibaba smashed his personal best by over five minutes to win the 42 km stretch in 02:04:24. He was followed by compatriot Lemi Berhanu Hayle with a time of 02:04:33, and Tsegaye Mekonnen Asefa, 12 seconds behind, in third place. In the women’s race, Ethiopian runners clinched the first five positions, with Tirfi Tsegaye Beyene coming on top in 02:19:41. Team-mates Amane Beriso Shankule and Meselech Melkamu Haileyesus rounded out the top-three spots.Meanwhile, away from the big guns, thousands of amateur runners also hit the roads, including a team from the Arabian Radio Network. ARN’s COO Steve Smith says it’s an occasion to remember colleague Rebecca Davidson who passed away three years ago.
