Champions League roundup: City and United come from behind to win

NULL

Sergio Aguero’s last-minute penalty gave Manchester City a 2-1 win at Borussia Monchengladbach in their Group D encounter. City goalkeeper Joe Hart saved a penalty from Raffael in the opening period, but was unable to stop Lars Stindl’s precise finish on 54 minutes. The visitors soon struck back thanks to Nicolas Otamendi’s volley, before Aguero picked himself up from a challenge by Fabian Johnson and converted from 12 yards. Manuel Pellegrini, the Man City manager, admitted after the match that his side were fortunate to take all three points, praising his opponent’s performance and saying that “both teams deserved to win.” In Group D’s other game, Juventus overcame Sevilla 2-0, thanks to goals from Alvaro Morata and Simone Zaza. Meanwhile, City’s rivals, Manchester United, also came from behind to beat German opposition 2-1, overcoming Wolfsburg at Old Trafford. Daniel Caligiuri finished an incise move just four minutes in to give the visitors the lead, exchanging passes with Julian Draxler before slotting the ball past David de Gea.
