Five-time champions Australia have got their World Cup campaign off to a winning start.

They beat Afghanistan by seven wickets in Bristol on Saturday night in their tournament opener.

David Warner smashed an unbeaten 89 as the defending champions successfully chased down their target of 208.

Meanwhile, New Zealand thrashed Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in what was the first match of the World Cup for both teams.

Fielding first, the Blackcaps bowled out their opponents for just 137 with Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson taking three wickets each.

Openers Colin Munro and Martin Guptill then hit half-centuries to lead New Zealand to a comfortable 10-wicket win.
