Australia defeated India by 12 runs in the third Twenty20 International in Sydney to avoid a series whitewash.

The hosts posted a score of 186-5, thanks to Matthew Wade (80 off 53 balls) and Glenn Maxwell's (54 off 36 balls) half-centuries.

In reply, India could only manage 174-7 off 20 overs, despite a fighting 85 (61 balls) from captain Virat Kohli.

Leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson was declared man of the match for figures of 3-23.

The three-match series ended 2-1 in India's favour, but the defeat brought an end to their 10-match winning streak in the T20 format.

It also ended India's hopes of registering a 100 per cent win record in T20Is in the calendar year.
