The US Military said on Wednesday night it carried out a fresh wave of strikes on Iranian military targets.

In a statement by US Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation - which lasted two hours - targeted military command centres, missile and drone facilities, coastal surveillance and defence sites, and maritime capabilities.

The military said the strikes aimed to further diminish threats posed by Iran to American forces, commercial shipping, and neighboring Gulf countries.

This comes after Saudia Arabia announced in the early hours of Wednesday morning it had launched targeted strikes on Iran-backed armed groups in Iraq, in coordination with CENTCOM.

The Saudi Press Agency reported that the Ministry of Defence claimed it "proceeded from the right to self-defence" and that Saudi "does not seek escalation but will respond to any aggression it faces".
