Israel launches strikes on southern Lebanon

KAWNAT HAJU / AFP

The Israeli military launched strikes on southern Lebanon early on Sunday after it said Hezbollah fired two drones at Israeli soldiers in the region.

Israel had earlier issued an evacuation warning for an area near a building in the town of Arab Salim, saying the site was being used by Hezbollah.

The military said the strikes were in response to two drones being launched towards Israeli troops stationed inside an area it has declared a security zone.

On Friday, Israel said it had also struck weapons storage facilities intended for use by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

More than 4,300 people have been killed by Israeli strikes in Lebanon since March 2.
