Drug kingpin "El Chapo" sentenced to life in prison

Mexican drug kingpin Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán has been sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years.

An American judge fond the 62-year-old guilty of 10 charges including money laundering and drug trafficking.

Guzmán, who was extradited to the US in 2017, escaped a Mexican jail in 2015.

He is renowned for being the head of the Sinaloa cartel.

Officials say the cartel wasd of the biggest supplier of drugs to the US for more than three decades.

He has also been ordered to pay AED 46.2 billion in forfeiture.

Guzmán will now serve his jail sentence at a high-security prison in Colorado.
