Dangerous arctic chill sweeps over US Midwest

A brutal cold spell is sweeping across the United States, bringing with it dangerous, record-setting temperatures and forcing authorities to shut down schools and businesses.

According to reports, hundreds of flights have also been impacted due to the extreme weather conditions. 

Forecasters have warned that the frigid weather could be life-threatening, with Chicago set to record temperatures as low as minus 25 Celsius.

The National Weather Service also warned people to avoid taking deep breaths and talking outside to ensure lungs are protected.
