Blaze from Israeli airstrike injures dozens in central Gaza

A blaze set by an Israeli airstrike targeting a tent camp on the grounds of Al-Aqsa Hospital in central Gaza killed at least three people and injured 40 others on Monday morning.

Footage posted on social media showed a large fire engulfing tents and people on the ground, as Palestinians attempted to extinguish the blaze.

The death toll is expected to rise as rescue efforts continue.

The Israeli military claimed to target a Hamas command centre in the area, with members allegedly hiding among civilians.

On Sunday, an Israeli airstrike in Al-Shati, northern Gaza, killed five children.

Another Israeli airstrike on a school housing displaced persons in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza killed at least 22 Palestinians on the same day.

The Israeli military has not yet commented on these attacks.

Israel has intensified its operations in Gaza and Lebanon over the last weeks.

Jabalia in northern Gaza has been under siege since October 6. Israeli tanks have reportedly encircled the area as air attacks continue.

Israeli forces have sieged the last three operational hospitals in northern Gaza—Kamal Adwan, Al-Awda, and the Indonesian hospitals—demanding their evacuation, worsening the humanitarian crisis.

The majority of the fatalities recorded in the Gaza Strip over the last week have been located in the besieged area.

Since October 7, at least 42,227 people have been killed and 98,464 injured in Israeli attacks in Gaza. At least 1,139 people were killed during a Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 and more than 200 people were taken captive.
