Arab nations condemn Iranian strike on US air base in Qatar

Several Arab nations strongly condemned Iran's attack on Qatar's Al Udeid air base on Monday calling it a blatant violation of Qatari sovereignty, international law and regional stability.

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, issued a firm denunciation of the airspace violation by Iran, calling the act “unacceptable” and warning of the dangers of escalating tensions. Aboul Gheit expressed hope that the confrontation would be swiftly contained to prevent further destabilisation.

Earlier, the UAE strongly condemned Iran’s attack on Al Udeid air base, calling it a violation of sovereignty and urging a return to diplomacy to avoid regional destabilization.

The State of Kuwait echoed the condemnation of Iran’s actions, describing the attack by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a “dangerous escalation” and a direct threat to regional peace and security.

In a statement via the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Kuwait reaffirmed its unwavering support for Qatar, praised its air defence systems for successfully intercepting the attack and expressed readiness to mobilise all necessary resources in Qatar’s defence. Kuwait also stressed the urgent need to halt military operations, especially in the context of ongoing Israeli military actions in the region.

Jordan similarly condemned the Iranian aggression, with its Ministry of Foreign Affairs calling it a flagrant violation of sovereignty and international law. Ambassador Dr. Sufyan Al-Qudah underscored the importance of diplomacy and dialogue to steer the region through this critical period, urging all sides to cease hostilities and return to the negotiating table.

Egypt also affirmed its full solidarity with Qatar. In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep concern over the rapidly escalating tensions in the region and reiterated its firm rejection of all forms of military escalation and violations of state sovereignty.

Oman joined in the condemnation, with its Ministry of Foreign Affairs labeling the Iranian missile strike on Qatari territory as an unacceptable act that violates the sovereignty of a fellow Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member. The statement warned that such actions risk expanding the conflict, leading only to more destruction and further undermining regional security and stability.

Morocco also issued a statement through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressing full solidarity with Qatar and reaffirming its support against any threats to the country’s security or the well-being of its citizens.
