Amazon faces Chinese social media fury over Hong Kong T-shirts

Online retailer Amazon has faced social media scrutiny in China for selling T-shirts that support the Hong Kong protests on its US and UK websites.

The hashtag "Amazon T-Shirts" became the fourth-top trending topic on China's Twitter-like Weibo.

According to local media reports, T-shirts carrying slogans such as "Free Hong Kong Democracy Now" and "Hong Kong is Not China", were being sold on Amazon.

Since July, the e-commerce giant continues to ship overseas goods to the country but doesn't have a domestic presence.

Several Chinese celebrities severed ties with a number of fashion labels earlier this week for promoting apparel that referred to Hong Kong and Taiwan as separate from the People's Republic of China.
