Afghanistan launches airstrikes on IS targets on border with Pakistan

Afghanistan's Taliban has carried out airstrikes targeting ISIS centre in Pakistan's border province of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, as tensions between the two countries further escalate.

Few civilians were injured in the incident, Pakistan's military claimed, adding that they intercepted several drones entering its territory. Some drones were sighted near a government school in Saranan, they added.

It comes just days after Pakistan airstrikes left at least 28 civilians dead and 49 more injured in the border area with Afghanistan.

Islamabad called Monday's attacks as "retaliation" for "terrorist attacks" on its soil.

Pakistan accuses Afghanistan of harbouring militants it blames for plotting attacks in Pakistan. The Afghan Taliban denies the accusations, saying militancy is Pakistan's internal problem.
