Three men have been sentenced in Australia for plotting bomb attacks on Christmas day in Melbourne’s Federation Square in 2016.

Twenty-four-year-old Hamza Abbas has been handed a 22-year jail term, while 25-year-old Ahmed Mohamed and 29-year-old Abdullah Chaarani will spend 38 years behind bars.

The men were found guilty last year in what authorities called "an imminent terrorist event" inspired by the IS terror group.

It was not immediately clear if the men would appeal their sentences.
