UAE condemns hostile Iranian attack on Saudi tanker 'Sidr'

The UAE has strongly condemned an Iranian attack on the Saudi-flagged tanker 'Sidr' while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in the deaths of a number of crew members.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attack poses a serious threat to the safety of international shipping and represents a dangerous escalation in one of the world’s most important waterways.

The UAE expressed its solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for measures to protect its vessels and national interests, while ensuring freedom of navigation in regional and international waters.

The Ministry said the attack is also a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which stresses the importance of freedom of navigation and rejects attacks on commercial vessels or disruption of international maritime routes.

The UAE stressed that targeting commercial shipping or using the Strait of Hormuz as a means of economic pressure is unacceptable.

It warned that such actions threaten regional stability, global energy security and international trade.
