Dubai Police has seized 13,657 electric scooters over the past eight months for traffic violations, as part of ongoing campaigns to improve road safety.

Police say some riders continue to put themselves and others at risk by breaking traffic rules.

Violations include riding on roads where the speed limit is above 60 km per hour, travelling against traffic, using pavements and commercial areas, crossing roads dangerously, and riding in non-designated areas.

Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said officers will continue to take action against dangerous behaviour.

He urged scooter riders to use designated paths and follow speed limits and traffic signals.

Riders must also wear a helmet that meets specifications and a reflective vest, and make sure their scooters have the required front and rear lights, reflectors and working brakes.

Dubai Police stressed that following the rules is essential to preventing accidents, serious injuries and loss of life, and to keeping roads across the emirate safe.
