Tributes have been pouring in for celebrated historian, author and journalist Peter Hellyer, who passed away on Sunday. He was 75.
Since moving to the UAE in 1975, he had spent a lot of time writing about archaeology and the history of the people of the UAE.
It was during his time as the director of the Abu Dhabi Islands Archaeological Survey that several important archaeological sites were discovered in the UAE.
Hellyer, along with Ibrahim Al Abed, also contributed to establishing the national news agency WAM and was the former chairman of the Emirates Natural History Group. He was instrumental in writing numerous articles on the country's heritage and wildlife, as well as several government yearbooks.
His incredible devotion to the nation he loved will be remembered with great affection, highlighted WAm in its tribute.
