Abu Dhabi Police have released the scale of drug seizures and related arrests in the emirate in the last quarter of 2020.

According to figures released on Friday, officers seized 1.41 tonnes of narcotic substances, including dissolved crystal liquid, whose market value is close to one billion dirhams.

Meanwhile, 22 defendants of different nationalities belonging to international drug trafficking gangs were arrested while 8 suspects were prosecuted for being involved in money laundering operations resulting from illicit drug trafficking.

All the seizures were made in the last quarter of the year 2020 as part of a series of cases followed by police, where the gangs used a new method of smuggling to bring drugs into the country.

They dissolved crystal meth in liquid form thinking that that it could be smuggled easily but the anti narcotics force was able to uncover the methods.

All the suspects were handed over to judicial authorities to take legal action.
