France win opening game at the Women's World Cup

The hosts beat South Korea 4-0 at a packed Parc des Princes.

Corinne Diacre's side is the favourites to win the eighth edition of the competition.

At half-time, they were leading 3-0 thanks to Eugenie Le Sommer's early opener and two headers from defender Wendie Renard.

Midfielder Amandine Henry scored in the 85th minute to seal the victory for the hosts.

VAR is being used in the Women's World Cup for the first time but the French fans booed in frustration at both the length of time it took to review footage.

Today in Group B action, Germany take on China while Spain face South Africa and in Group A fixture Norway play Nigeria.

Meanwhile, reigning champions United States will get their campaign underway against Thailand on Tuesday.
