COP28 President Dr. Sultan Al Jaber urged countries on Monday to make more progress toward a climate change deal in areas where there were still gaps between nations, including on the language regarding fossil fuels.

Telling the summit that it had made progress, he said "we still have a lot to do".

"You know what remains to be agreed. And you know that I want you to deliver the highest ambition on all items including on fossil fuel language," Al Jaber added.

The summit in Dubai also approved a proposal to hold the next UN Climate Change Conference, COP29, in the central Asian republic of Azerbaijan.

The country won support of other Eastern European nations on Saturday after months of deadlock and after it reached an agreement with neighbour Armenia that it would not veto the move.
