The UAE continues to implement relief projects to support Sudanese refugees and the local community in Chad.

Solar-powered lighting units have been installed as part of the first phase of a major initiative to light up markets, streets and public facilities in several villages in Amdjarass.

An Emirati team, comprising the Emirates Red Crescent, the Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation is implementing the project in partnership with the UAE Aid Coordination Office in Chad.

The support is aimed at boosting the living conditions of the Sudanese people who have sought shelter in neighbouring Chad since conflict broke out in their homeland in April.

It's also meant to help vulnerable groups in Chad.

"The ERC team is extending a helping hand to Sudanese refugees and the local community by intensifying its humanitarian efforts and field visits to local villages to assess the needs of residents and meet them," said Saif Yasser Al Afari, the ERC Representative in Amdjarass.
