Only eight hospitals in the capital will now provide emergency treatment to patients.

The decision is part of a shakeup of the capital's healthcare sector.

Dr. Fawzi al-Ayoubi, Medical Director of Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi, told ARN News that changes to the system were long overdue.

He added that UAE residents need to have a better understanding of what constitutes a medical emergency.
