Pakistan court rejects former PM Sharif's bail plea

A court in Pakistan has rejected a petition to grant former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif relief on medical grounds.

Sharif was shifted from Kot Lakhpat Jail, where he is serving his sentence, to the Jinnah Hospital 10 days back to undergo treatment for his heart.

In a nine-page short order, the Islamabad High Court bench ruled that his condition didn't qualify him for bail because all medical facilities were available to him.

Sharif is currently serving a seven-year sentence imposed last year for failing to disclose the source of income.

His aide, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, expressed "disappointment" but said the party would take "all necessary legal recourse".
