Sri Lanka lifts curfew as death toll rises sharply

STR / AFP

The death toll from Sunday's bomb blasts in Sri Lanka has risen to 290, as authorities lifted an island-wide curfew on Monday.

Police say at least 27 foreign nationals are among the victims.

About 500 people have also been injured in the string of bombings that tore through churches and luxury hotels on Easter Sunday.

Police say 24 arrests have made, but the Sri Lankan government has not identified which group carried out the attacks.

It's the deadliest act of violence in the country since the end of the civil war in 2009.
