Counterfeit products worth over AED 330 million were confiscated in Dubai in 2018.
According to the Department of Economic Development (DED), nearly 20 million fake items were seized in total, with cosmetics, phones and accessories, and automobile parts forming the bulk.
Officials have stepped up random market checks and field visits to spot counterfeit goods, in partnership with brand owners.
Jama Abdullah Al Falasi, Manager of DED’s Intellectual Property Disputes sector, explained the process to ARN.
Al Falasi also added that the confiscated goods are usually destroyed.
