US backs opposition leader as Venezuela president

US President Donald Trump has officially recognised Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as the Interim President of Venezuela.

Nicolas Maduro was re-elected President of Venezuela in May, in elections that have been widely condemned fraudulent and illegitimate.

Juan Carlos Lamas reports from Caracas

In response, Maduro has broken diplomatic ties with the US and gave its diplomatic staff 72 hours to leave Venezuela.
