US sanctions threaten Venezuela's economy as Maduro eyes next move

The Trump administration announced sanctions sharply curbing Venezuela's vital oil exports, in a bid to pressure President Nicolas Maduro to step down. 

It will also enable them to empower opposition leader and self-proclaimed president Juan Guaido to call the elections.

In a defiant national broadcast on Monday night, Maduro said he would take legal action to challenge the sanctions.
