Missing footballer's plane wreckage found

Wreckage from the plane carrying Argentinian footballer Emiliano Sala and his pilot has been found in the English Channel.

David Mearns, who directed a privately-funded search for the aircraft, said it was located off Guernsey, with teams from the Air Accident Investigation Branch working towards recovering the plane.

"The families of Emiliano Sala and David Ibbotson have been notified by Police," David Mearns wrote on Twitter on Sunday.

Sala was travelling from France to join up with his new club, Premier League side Cardiff City, in an aircraft manned by Ibbotson on January 21 when it disappeared near the Channel Islands.
