NEW ANTI-SMOKING LAW TO COME INTO EFFECT FROM 2014

From the beginning of next year, it will be illegal to smoke inside vehicles if there are children younger than 12 years old present.

The new anti-tobacco law aims to limit children’s exposure to cigarette smoke and also reduce the number of youths smoking.

According to the national news agency WAM, a recent study found nearly 30% of those under 15 years old in Abu Dhabi are smokers.

The regulation will also require every packet to display large health warnings – there’ll also be a ban on tobacco advertisements.
